MindHack Digest: A Letter from My Past Self
In the past month I received a letter from my past self, written for my future self. It was through a service called FutureMe which allows you to write emails that you can only open on the date you specified. While reading it, I was surprised at how many of the things I grappled with then like uncertainty, questioning my purpose, pondering about the direction of my life and those around me.
I wasn’t surprised that I was dealing with those things, rather the realization that I still deal with those things, just on a different level. It’s strange how we can look back and feel so distant and unfamiliar with our younger selves, even though that person was at one point just a version of who you are now.
Much of the worries my younger self had were worst-case scenarios that never materialized. In growing up, I’ve often found that the darkest paths are often the most illuminating, and that magic tends to spark in the realm of uncertainty, discomfort and failure. It’s in those struggles that we discover who we really are.
I invite you to write a letter to your future self, to capture this moment for posterity’s sake, because who knows what tomorrow may bring.
🍺 to a great week ahead!
